Aviation security — prohibited items

What may not be carried on board, and the difference between cabin and hold baggage.

Banned outright (cabin and hold)

  • Explosives, fireworks, ammunition.
  • Flammable compressed gases, flammable liquids, oxidising agents.
  • Toxic, infectious, radioactive and corrosive substances.
  • Damaged, recalled or over-capacity lithium batteries.

Hold baggage only

  • Knives, scissors, sharp objects and tools usable as weapons.
  • Club-shaped sports equipment (golf clubs, baseball bats and similar).

Cabin baggage only — never in the hold

  • Power banks and loose lithium batteries — a fire in the cabin can be spotted and put out in time; one in the hold cannot.
  • Electronic cigarettes.

Liquids in cabin baggage

No container over 100 ml, one litre in total, carried in a transparent resealable plastic bag. Prescription medicines and infant milk are assessed separately.
