Air passenger rights and obligations
Delays, cancellations and denied boarding — what passengers are entitled to and what is expected of them.
Delayed or cancelled flights
The airline must inform passengers, provide meals according to the length of the delay, arrange accommodation for overnight delays, and offer rerouting or a refund. Where a flight is cancelled or heavily delayed through the airline's fault, passengers are additionally entitled to non-refundable advance compensation at the prescribed rate.
Passenger obligations
- Check in within the time the airline publishes.
- Comply with aviation security and safety rules and with crew instructions.
- Carry no prohibited items and cause no disturbance on board.
- Do not smoke, including electronic cigarettes, at any point during the flight.
Disruptive behaviour that threatens flight safety carries very heavy administrative penalties and can lead to a temporary flying ban.
